Galgibaga Beach seen through casuarina pines — an empty, moody shoreline at the turtle conservation reserve, South Goa

Where

Galgibaga, Canacona, South Goa

Good to know

  • There is no entry fee, and the beach is patrolled at night in nesting season
  • If you visit during the season, keep your distance from any turtles and keep lights and camera flashes off — and please never film or photograph nesting turtles
  • Disturbing them is an offence, and the turtles come first

About Galgibaga Beach — Turtle Conservation Reserve

Goa's Turtle Conservation Reserve beach: a long, almost empty arc of sand where Olive Ridley turtles nest at night in season, protected by the Forest Department. No party scene, few shacks, the Talpona river meeting the sea at one end. Come for silence, not selfies with turtles.

This is a genuine conservation beach — the turtles nest here from October to May, peaking between November and March.
