The eroded red-earth ruins of Curdi village on the dry reservoir bed, beneath a green treeline, Sanguem, South Goa

Where

Curdi, Sanguem, South Goa

Good to know

  • Curdi can only be visited in the low-water window, roughly April–May — the exact weeks vary each year, and outside that window the village lies beneath the reservoir
  • Access roads are rough and there is no mobile network, and police urge caution when crowds peak
  • Treat it as a place of memory, not a ruin playground: former residents return here for the Someshwar Utsav and the chapel feast

About Curdi — the Village That Returns, Sanguem

A whole village submerged by the Salaulim Dam in the 1980s that re-emerges for a few weeks each April–May as the reservoir falls: temple, chapel, house foundations and roads rise from the water, and former residents return for the Someshwar Utsav and chapel feast.

Why visit: the single most extraordinary story in South Goa — a whole village that returns from the water for a few weeks each year.
